Mzuzu United FC have sacked head coach Christopher Nyambose, the team announced on Tuesday.

The club’s secretary Ollens Musonda said the decision followed a string of losses the team suffered under Nyambose.

Meanwhile, Musonda said the club has engaged former Embangweni coach Etson Mwafulirwa and former Azam Tigers player Edgar Mkandawire.

Mwafulirwa and Mkandawire confirmed they are in talks with Mzuzu United.

“Yes, Mzuzu United chairperson briefed us on the issue, but we are still weighing options,” said Mkandawire.

Said Musonda: “We have gone eight matches without a win and we were under pressure from our sponsors, hence the decision to sack Nyambose.”

He added: “We lost to Blue Eagles 1-2, Epac 1-4, Kamuzu Barracks 0-2, Moyale 1-2, Mponela United 3-0 and drew with Silver Strikers 3-3, Blantyre United 2-2.”

But Nyambose told The Nation he resigned to save his reputation.

He said the team was struggling because players and officials lacked incentives.

Said Nyambose: “The team is not ready for the Super League. How could a club perform when players depend on borrowing football boots from each other. The players play on an empty stomach and do not get allowances. This is why the players could not deliver because they were demoralised. So, to say I was not performing is just a scapegoat.”
