NAM EGM set for June 29
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) interim executive committee has set June 29 as the date for its extraordinary general meeting (EGM) at Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre.
NAM interim vice-general secretary Yamikani Kauma said during the EGM, regional and district netball committees will decide whether to confirm the current interim executive or usher in a new team that will lead the association until its next elective assembly in 2025.
The Vitumbiko Gubuduza-led NAM interim executive committee was appointed during a meeting which the Malawi National Council of Sports had with the association’s regional and districts chairpersons last month.
“We have already sent a notice to the regional and district committees on the imminent EGM and we are waiting for Sports Council to provide funding for the event,” Kauma said.
She said if the interim executive committee will be confirmed, they will have a work plan for the remainder of the NAM tenure of office.
“It is our wish to maintain the current NAM calendar of events, including the Malawi Queens participation in the Test Series against South Africa later this year,” said Kauma.
On Sports Council’s recent communication that it will not approve the South Africa trip due to lack of funding, she said they have sent funding proposals to some companies for consideration.
“We realised that if we remove the Test Series from the calendar, the Queens will be inactive this year. We also noted that South Africa is closer and we will not spend much,” she said.
Sports Council spokesperson Edgar Mtulumbwa yesterday said once NAM puts its house in order through the EGM, they will discuss the Queens’ activities.
