Two second-half goals from Christopher Mhone against Lunyangwa Research on Sunday enhanced Nkhata Bay Police FC’s chances of winning the K3 million (about $7 500) Simama Northern Region Football League (NRFC) Premier Division title.

The cops beat the researchers 2-0 at Chibavi ground in Mzuzu.

Nkhata Bay Police displayed fantastic football through Mphatso Nkoloma, Beaton Mhone and captain Brave Vinkhumbo.

They were constant visitors in Lunyangwa’s goal area, making the researchers’ goalkeeper the busiest man on the pitch that afternoon.

However, Lunyangwa too had a grand game, but their strikers Saidi Msiska, Smart Msiska and James Malidadi were wasteful in front of the goal.

Nkhata Bay Police coach Isaac Milanzi hailed his charges for the victory, saying the win boosted their chances to the ultimate glory. They have taken their tally to 55 points from 28 games.

“They were playing 4-5-1 system and we outnumbered them with a 4-4-2 in the midfield to weaken them,” said Milanzi.

Lunyangwa coach, Black Masebo, said they were guilty of not training during the Christmas season and they were punished for approaching the game casually.

The researchers have 31 points from 25 games.
