Napolo: They should write

Nchalo United FC fans have made a U-turn on their call for the team to fire technical adviser Jones Napolo for suggesting that supporters should no longer man the gates during their games at Kalulu Stadium.

However, Napolo says he will not return to the club until the supporters, who visited his home recently, put their apology in writing and welcome his idea that the supporters should be replaced by members of the clergy at the gates to ensure the safety of gate takings.

The supporters wrote a letter to their executive committee last month demanding the dismissal of the former Flames goalkeeper after being infuriated by Napolo’s proposal to change personnel at the gates. They also accused him of conniving with others to divert the collections.

“They came to me saying they are sorry for what happened and they want me back. I cannot welcome an oral apology; they wrote a letter to the executive seeking for my dismissal and they also need to document the apology,” Napolo said.

One of the team’s leading supporters, Lucius Paul, confirmed the apology, saying they have realised Napolo did not misappropriate funds as they alleged.

Nchalo United general secretary Phillip Kumchera on Thursday said Napolo is still the team’s technical adviser although they are still investigating the matter.

The team, which finished on position five in last season’s Arthur Mutharika Southern Region Football League Premier Division, is yet to start preparations for this season that kicked off two weeks ago.
