New accounting software targets Malawian SMEs
A new financial management tool, Accounting Suite, has entered the Malawian market, aiming to improve how small businesses handle accounting and inventory.
The software was launched on July 26 at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe, through a partnership between international developer 1C and local firm David & Associates.
The system, built with small businesses in mind, offers both online and offline functionality. It includes features such as payroll processing, inventory tracking, and a mobile app for remote access. Its offline capability means users can keep working even when the internet is down.

At the launch, attended by accountants, IT professionals, and business leaders, 1C founder Alexey Novokov said the platform was designed to meet local needs.
He said: “It’s very flexible. It can be very local,” he said.
We integrate with local tax authorities and plan to connect with other local services.”
Novokov also said the company intends to stay engaged in Malawi and similar markets by supporting training in schools and colleges.
“We want to help students learn not just our platform, but how to automate businesses and understand what tools are needed today,” he said.
David & Associates Managing Director Davie Nkhoma said the tool will help simplify key financial tasks for businesses.
“This solution is going to boost productivity by improving accuracy and reducing time spent on routine tasks,” said Nkhoma.
Accounting Suite was developed to address limitations in existing tools, such as weak inventory features and unreliable cloud support. It is already being used in four countries and is expected to roll out in Zimbabwe next.
In Malawi, the package comes with local support, updates, and training.
