Philemon Nkhakamila Banda and challenger Boniface Stenala drew their bantamweight non-title fight at Domwe Motel in Dedza on Saturday.

Judges John Masamba, Yolanda Kaitano and Leonard Metazama could not separate the two at the end of the eight-round fight that was shifted from the motel’s hall to an open ground to accommodate more fans who patronised the event.

According to Mulanje Last Boxing Promotion’s (MLBP) Nginjale ‘Tough’ Ben Chitenje, the boxers offered a thrilling fight to the fun-starved fans despite the ring becoming slippery at times due to rain showers.

The boxers, who received K60 000 (US$143) each for the stalemate, have since asked for a rematch, which Chitenje said will take place at the same venue in two months’ time.

“Everybody was satisfied with the bout and they have asked for more bouts. The owner of the motel, Christopher Dazel, has offered to sponsor the rematch,” said Chitenje.

Twenty-nine-year-old Stenala said the slippery surface betrayed his intention to knockout his 31-year-old opponent while Nkhakamila attributed the draw to his delay to land killer punches on Stenala.
