Surestream Academy’s juicy dream to play in the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Division One championship in only their first season, appears to be on track.

The academy side is set to finish the year at the top having collected 51 points after winning both their weekend games without breaking sweat. Blantyre ADD are on second position with 40 points from 19 games whereas Chitakale are third with 38 points also from 19 games.

On Sunday, Surestream thumped Luchenza Tea Stars 5-0 while on Saturday they beat Makoka 3-1. In Saturday’s game, their new signing from Karonga, Patrick Phiri scored a double in his debut. He converted in the 13th and 31st minutes while Isaac Mwale scored the third in the 37th minute.

Another new catch, Ishmail Chirwa from Mzuzu, was the toast of the afternoon on Sunday when he claimed a hat-trick, Ernest Tambe made it 4-0 while Levison Maganizo closed the scoresheet towards the end.

Surestream’s technical adviser Patricio Kulemeka said: “It’s good that we are keeping up the momentum. We have beefed up the squad with a couple of new players. We rested a number of regulars at the weekend in order to get a glimpse of the new players and they did not disappoint.

“We are happy that we will finish the year at the top.”

Blantyre ADD beat Rays of Hope 3-2 on Sunday while Chitakale thrashed Mangochi Police 4-0.

The fight for Super League promotion continues to gather momentum with the top two teams—Chikhwawa United and Cobbe Barracks—in a tight race.

Chikhwawa are at the pinnacle of the table with 62 points from 25 games while Cobbe trail them by just a point (61 points) from the same number of games. Zomba United are third with 54 points also from 25 games.
