Mighty Wanderers have said they are not losing sleep with Tanzanian side Simba Sports Club’s (SC) 28-match unbeaten run in the NBC Premier League ahead of their Confederation of African Fiitball (CAF) Champions League first round first leg clash.
The Nomads host the Dar es Salaam-based outfit on September 6 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe while the return leg is scheduled for a week later in Tanzania.
The domestic top-flight league champions’ director of football David Kanyenda said in an interview yesterday: “We respect Simba’s domestic record at home and their 28-game unbeaten streak is an achievement.
“However, records are created to be challenged and eventually broken. We will not be traveling to Dar es Salaam to be spectators or to admire their home statistics.
“Our squad is fully prepared, highly motivated and focused strictly on our own tactical execution. We are focusing on our strengths, and we believe we have the precise quality needed to disrupt their rhythm and eliminate them.”
Under South African coach Steve Barker, Simba SC’s unbeaten streak in the league now sits at 28 games, extending back to last season, with the club last tasting defeat in the league in December 2025.
Simba SC beat Singida Black Stars 2-1 on Saturday to maintain their 100 percent start to the campaign with nine points from three matches.
Barker, whose side is second on the standings tied on nine points with champions Young Africans, was quoted by SuperSport as having praised his players for their commitment and resilience after extending their unbeaten league run with three consecutive away victories.
Meanwhile, Kanyenda has said Wanderers are determined to win the Airtel Top 8 final against Ekhaya FC this Sunday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, saying it will be a big motivation ahead of the Champions League back-to-back fixtures.
He said: “Winning the Airtel Cup would provide us with a massive psychological boost ahead of the CAF tourney games. It would create positive energy amongst the squad and fans
“It would also send a message to Simba that we’re no pushovers.”
Ironically, the Nomads are also second in the domestic flagship league in which they are tied on 29 points with leaders Silver Strikers and are separated by goal difference.
