Nomads court Salima Sugar on contract extension

Mighty Wanderers FC have engaged their sponsors Salima Sugar Company Limited on the prospects of extending and increasing the sponsorship package.

The K60 million one-year sponsorship deal expires next month.

The sugar manufacturer’s company secretary Charles Thupi said in an interview yesterday that the Nomads have already engaged them on the prospects of extending the deal.

He said: “Without going into details, I can confirm that we have been approached informally by the club and once we get a detai l ed proposal, we will submit it to

“So, I can say we have held preliminary talks, but nothing concrete yet.”

Nomads board secretary Humphrey Mvula said in an interview on Thursday that they are planning to meet Salima Sugar management next week.

“So, I can only have a clear picture after that meeting,” he said.

Mvula could not be drawn to comment on how much the Nomads will negotiate for this time around.

But a source said Wanderers want the sponsorship doubled or even more.

Said the source: “They are looking at negotiating for over K200 million with the minimum pegged at K120 million.

“They also want to negotiate for a long-term deal.”

From the K60 million package, Wanderers were getting K5 million per month.

Initially, the Nomads tried to negotiate for K120 million in the current deal, but it did not work.

Last year, the club’s former interim chief executive officer Chance Gondwe said the K60 million was on the lower side.

The club’s former president and board chair supplemented the sponsorship by pumping in about K200 million, including salaries, allowances and game bonuses
