Mighty Wanderers fans were involved in a road accident on Saturday afternoon in Zomba which left five supporters injured.

The fans had just started off from Zomba Community Centre ground where their team beat Chinamwali 3-0 to qualify for the Presidential Cup quarter-finals.

The club’s supporters committee chairperson Yona Malunga said the accident occurred when the side of the track they were travelling in suddenly opened.

“The track was full and due to the weight, the rear side of the vehicle was forced open leading to some people falling down,” said Malunga.

But he said there were no casualties.

“One of them, popularly called ‘Island’, fainted as a result of shock while four others suffered bruises. They were all taken to Zomba Central Hospital where they were treated and admitted for further observation.

“They are in stable condition and our chairperson [George Chamangwana] has sent a vehicle this morning [yesterday] to pick them up,” he said.

The Nomads accidents happened barely three weeks after Azam Tigers players were also involved in a road accident along the Chikhwawa Road on their way to Nchalo where they were supposed to take on Balaka Socials in the same tournament.
