Nomads, Salima sugar make peace
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have received K17 million in outstanding dues from their former sponsors Salima Sugar Company Limited as a joint amicable settlement after parting ways unceremoniously in June this year.
The development follows a concern that was raised by the Lali Lubani Road outfit upon the termination of the deal by the sugar manufacturers.
Wanderers commercialisation sub-committee chairperson Clement Stambuli and Salima Sugar company secretary Charles Thupi confirmed the settlement in separate interviews yesterday.
Said Stambuli: “The fact of the matter is that there were outstanding issues in terms of payments at the time Salima Sugar announced that they would no longer sponsor us.
“So, yes I can confirm that they paid us K17 million and the issue is now a closed chapter. We have parted on a good note and there are no more issues.”
On his part, Thupi said: “It is true that the outstanding issue was amicably resolved and we have amicably settled the matter.”
Salima Sugar announced the withdrawal of their K60 million annual sponsorship just days after the Nomads unveiled Mukuru as their main sponsor, complete with naming rights to the tune of K175 million.
But the Nomads did not take it lightly and argued that the decision not to renew the sponsorship was made after Salima Sugar had already committed extension by, among other things, purchasing a new set of uniforms.
Part of the letter from Wanderers to Salima, read: “We are obliged to demand from Salima Sugar payment of contract amounts for three months of January, February and March 2022. Unpaid contract sums for months of April, May and June.”
After parting ways with Wanderers, Salima Sugar entered into a sponsorship agreement with another TNM Super Lesgue side Dedza Dynamos.
