Be Forward Wanderers survived a scare in Mzuzu yesterday to beat Chilumba Barracks 1-0 and reach the quarter-finals of the Carlsberg Cup.
Mapopa Kaunda scored the only goal for Wanderers after 57 minutes.
Nomads goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa was solid in the goals to frustrate the soldiers from scoring.
Chilumba made several attempts to earn a late goal, but Chipuwa’s brilliant saves took his side to the next stage.

Chipuwa was declared man of the match.
In an interview, Chilumba coach Steven Kambanja blamed the defeat on the referee.
‘’We played very well, but the referee was not on our side,’’ said Kambanja.
Wanderers coach Elia Kananji was over the moon following the win.
‘’I am very happy with the win; Chilumba tried to overcome us, but my boys put up an extra effort to take the lead,’’said Kananji.
In Lilongwe, Civo United were booted out of the Carlsberg Cup following a 1-0 loss at the hands of Support Battalion at Silver Stadium.
An early goal from Mphatso Mlauzi broke the hearts of Civo faithfuls.
The visitors held on to the slender lead to book a place in the quarter-finals.
It is a second successive appearance for Support in this competition.
Last year, they lost to Zomba United at the same stage.
“It was a great win considering that we faced a Super League side. We were confident on the ball and deserved to win. I am proud of my boys,” said assistant coach Staff Sergeant Manto Lampu in a post-match brief.
“Now, all we have to do is focus on the next game. We can go all the way. It is just two games remaining,” said Lampu.
The technical panel of Civo was shocked and could not take questions from the media.
Another Chipiku Division One side Silver Reserves are taking on Big Bullets in Blantyre today.
In Blantyre,  Dedza Young Soccer stunned Azam Tigers in post match penalties following one all draw.
Hero of the day was substitute goalkeeper Carrington Misomali who saved Dedza Young Soccer Stars after stopping two penalties.
Dedza scored through Chisomo Mpachika, Amadu Makawa, Davie Balaka and Pachalo Kumilonde while Azam scored through Yamikani Chester and Dan Kumwenda.
The game between Moyale Barracks and Red Lions was also decided on penalties at the Zomba Community Centre ground.
Moyale beat Red Lions 4-3 after the two teams played out to a goalless draw in regulation time.
The Mzuzu-based soldiers scored through Khuda Muyaba, Sandres Munthali, Boy Boy Chima and Steve Mkandawire. Chrispin Fukizi’s penalty hit the upright before ricocheting away from the goal. Red Lions missed their penalties through Innocent Bokosi and Chikoti Chirwa.
However, Loti Mwakisulu, Mphatso Ngwira and Ndaona Limbani converted theirs. Moyale coach Nicholas Mhango expressed satisfaction with the win whereas his counterpart Collins Nkuna rued many scoring chances his charges missed during the game. n
