Speaking after sharing the word of God with the prisoners, chairperson of the ministry Fentess Pindani encouraged the inmates to commit themselves to serving God.
She said the tough situations they are going through in prison should not make them lose hope in God.
“Although you are in jail, God still loves you; hence the need for all of us to bear spiritual fruit,” said Pindani.
She referred to John 3: 16 for reflection. In this verse God shows His love by sending his begotten son Jesus to die for people’s salvation.
Pindani encouraged the inmates to emulate the same divine example by loving one another.
After prayers, the women’s ministry distributed to the inmates assorted items worth K25 000.
Pindani said it was worth assisting inmates with anything that can improve their lives because it is only healthy people who can serve God better.
One of the female inmates, Agness Chiwisa, said frequent visits by faith-based groups help to enrich their spiritual lives. She testified that she has now become a new person.
She said before her incarceration, she did not pay much attention to prayer. She also said she has learnt how to read the Bible and praise God through singing.
Zomba Prison assistant chaplain, Jane Banda welcomed visits by faith groups, saying they ease the work of the chaplaincy.
Banda said messages inmates get from the preaching by visiting faith groups help them find true meaning of their lives and also work towards improving changing their spiritual and social lives.
She commended Assemblies of God for the moral and material support they give to inmates.
The women’s visit came a few months after prisoners at the correctional facility inspired Zomba Assemblies of God congregation with Bible recitals and hymns.
