Ministry of Health has supported Nsanje District Hospital with an ambulance to ease mobility when reaching out to Tropical Storm Ana survivors living in camps.

Speaking after the donation on Saturday, Deputy Minister of Health Enock Phale said the ambulance will help to ferry patients from various camps to the district hospital.

He also said the ambulance will be used for mobile clinics in camps since the facility is congested.

“Use the vehicle for the purpose of ferrying patients or medics because it has come to our attention that some hospitals abuse ambulances,” said Phale.

Traditional Authority Chimombo thanked government for the gesture, saying people in camps are struggling to go to hospital due to lack of transport.

Nsanje District Council chairperson Rose Makiyi commended government for its commitment to support the affected people in a number of ways.

However, she asked government to scale up food response in the district.

Said Makiyi: “Almost all people in the district have been affected by the storm as their crops have been washed away.

“We appeal to other well-wishers to help the people with relief food.”

Nsanje district director of health and social services Dr. Gilbert Chapweteka pledged to use the ambulance for its intended purpose
