Ntafu sets tone for golden boot race
Chitipa United striker Ramadhan Ntafu has set the tone for the 2024 golden boot race, having scored the season’s first hat-trick.
He scored three goals as Nkhalamu Zga ku Chitipa thumped ‘neighbours’ Karonga United 4-1 at Karonga Stadium on Saturday.
Breathing down his neck are Silver Strikers duo of Adiel Kaduya and Binwell Katinji, Babangida Ishaya of newly-promoted Creck Sporting Club and Civil Service United’s duo of Blessings Mwalilino and Isaac Msiska, who have scored two goals apiece.
In an interview yesterday, Ntafu said he was excited to score the first hat-trick of the season.
“I hope it is just the beginning of good things to come this season. To score three goals, which helped my team bag our first full points, was satisfying,” he said.
Chitipa are sixth with three points from two matches.
Meanwhile, after the second round of matches, seven teams, including champions FCB Nyasa Bullets are yet to taste victory.
The People’s Team have drawn 1-1 against Dedza Dynamos and 0-0 with Mighty Tigers. They are 11th in the 16-team league.
The other teams still hunting for their first wins are Kamuzu Barracks, Mafco FC, Tigers, Dedza Dynamos, newly-promoted Baka City and table anchors Bangwe All Stars.
Three teams, leaders Silver Strikers, rookies Creck Sporting Club and Mzuzu City Hammers have won both their matches and are separated by goal difference.
Baka and Bangwe have lost both their matches.
Forty-one goals have been scored so far and Creck Sporting have scored the highest number of goals, six.
