Tradeline Corporation Limited (TLC) has saluted the Catholic-based Prison Fellowship Malawi (PFM) for the success it registered in the Balaka Youth Arise Project (Bayap).

The project received K30 million from United States African Development Foundation (USADF) through TLC to rehabilitate and provide skills training to ex-prisoners and out-of-school youths in Malawi.

Speaking on Saturday when he presented certificates to 39 students who had finished their training in tailoring and carpentry, TLC business development consultant, Alexander Kumchenga, said PFM has been transparent in its financial management throughout the lifespan of the project.

“Our corporation is very pleased to be associated with the diligent work of PFM and it is our wish that Bayap should continue to deliver its agenda even beyond USADF funding period next year,” said Kumchenga.

PFM executive director, Rodrick Zalimba, said the training of the youth was critical in economically empowering them for their self-reliance.

“The skills acquired will enable them engage in entrepreneurial activities, thereby preventing them from committing further crimes in their search for basic needs. PFM has already given them starter-pack tools in tailoring and carpentry,” said Zalimba.

Out of the 39 graduates, 15 are girls. All of the girls did tailoring while the boys received training in carpentry.
