He observed the passion among the youth in contributing to the fight against GBV, saying it gives hope that the initiative will be sustained.

“It is not just about women being empowered. It is also about men and our traditional leaders taking a stand and saying no. We need a different form of community, form of society where women are recognised and respected,” said Marongwe.

During the event, Oxfam awarded traditional leaders and others with certificates in recognition of their commitment towards the fight against GBV and early marriages.

In his remarks, group village head Zephaniah said traditional leaders want to see GBV cases eradicated, adding that early marriages and GBV affect development.

“Actually T/A Kalumbu is serious about protecting girls and women. He directed traditional leaders under his jurisdiction to be in the forefront in fighting early marriages and gender-based violence,” he said.
