Pastor purity kasambara: pretty girls pray ministry

Listen to this article

Pastor Purity Kasambara believes that women can do better in life and overcome their daily challenges.

She says if women spend more time with God and focus on their visions, big things can be accomplished.

Because of that passion for women, she created a conducive environment for growth through her ministry called Pretty Girls Pray where women can freely express themselves and learn about the word of God and different skills to improve their lives.

Pretty Girls Pray is a women’s ministry that began in 2020, but was officially launched on November 26 2021.

“Our vision is to reach modern girls and women from cities and towns; to teach and preach to them about the beauty of God and praying.

“Modern women and girls are perceived to be busy people in society, who have little time or no time at all for God,” says Purity.

The pastor, who is also an entrepreneur says her ministry  wants to raise a generation of women, who apart from their careers, jobs, businesses, education must be fired up for God.

She hosts business seminars and is a fashion designer. The business seminars equip girls with skills to do well at the market place.

Purity plans to build a Pretty Girls Pray centre house a chapel for prayer, a counselling centre, netball and tennis courts.

Her aim is to make make it a transformation haven for women and girls; and to preach beyond the borders of Malawi.

She wants to impact women in secondary schools, universities, market place and offices.

Purity cited the story of a woman from the Bible named Deborah who was a prophetess, judge, wife and an army commander.

She notes that Deborah’s career never limited her from knowing and serving God.

“Well, the name is just a reminder and motivation to girls and women that yes, they are beautiful and they can pray.

“After all, we are wonderfully and beautifully created by God and with such beauty, we must pray,” she says.

Apart from teaching women about God and praying, the 36-year-old understands that there are many things happening that can let people down.

Her pretty Girls Pray Ministry hosts mental health sessions, business sessions,  sports days, chinamwali sessions, picnics and helps those in need.

They have branches in Salima, Blantyre, Mzuzu and Lilongwe as their headquarters.

One of the ministry’s best moments is when they hosted Dr. Pearl Kupe from South Africa.

Purity explained that Kupe is a true example of how a pretty girl must be.

“She is an apostle, an attorney, who has worked for many international organisations, including the United Nations,” she adds

Kupe is also the Global Forum of Women Entrepreneurs president, an author and speaker.

The ministry also hosted Esther Chungu, a renowned Zambian gospel musician.

While in school at the Catholic University of Malawi, Purity opened a tailoring and fashion designing shop.

She has since been working with companies, non-governmental organisation and ministers.

“Apart from the tailoring business, I launched a cleaning services company this year. I also sell shoes and handbags online.

“I want to encourage my fellow pastors that it’s time to work. God blesses the works of our hands. Let’s move and run away from the culture of begging, it despises the name of our great God that we serve,” she says.

The entrepreneur also hosts mental health sessions for women to open up on life’s challenges.

“I am a survivor of depression. It’s worth to call myself a survivor because depression is evil, beyond what we think about it. Coming out of depression is a great achievement.

“I see that God deliberately took me through the process of depression to take mental issues seriously,” she says.

Purity introduced mental health sessions to prayer gatherings in 2022 September, restoring many lives in the process.

“It was heartwarming how women opened up and spoke about mental health through their various encounters. I was alarmed, but helped us incorporated mental health talks in our meetings since then,” says the pastor.

The fashion designer grew up in a loving environment because her father fought hard to get his family the right education and shelter.

But like any human being, Purity has met challenges in her life.

The major challenge was with identifying her purpose, realising who she was and what she wanted to become, working towards achieving her goals and overcoming the challenges.

Because of that, she found herself doing many things and not focusing on one thing.

“And that led to delay in becoming who I truly am, accomplishing my goals and making strides in life.

“The other challenge I met growing up was with love relationships. I found myself in relationships that never worked out as some were mentally and physically abusive,” she adds.

But she admits that those relationships built the strong person she is today.

“God entrusted me with his girls and women as their caretaker. It’s a big responsibility that I believe is only God who helps me execute the duties and responsibilities. Otherwise on my own, I cannot manage.

“These women look up to me and trust me as their leader. I am persuaded to pray, work and sharpen myself to be a better leader,” says Purity.

She was born to Samuel Kasambara and Lucky Michembo on May 8 1987.

She is the second born and has four siblings; Ansley, Sunga, Faith and Brian.

“I spent my childhood and teenage years in Blantyre where I did my nursery, primary and secondary education at Lady Bird International High School and Kaphuka Private Secondary School.

While waiting for the Malawi School Certificate of Education results, she did a graphic and advert designing certificate course at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences.

She has a certificate in journalism from the Malawi institute of Journalism.

Later, Purity applied at the Catholic University of Malawi to study education, but switched to social sciences. Much later, she also ditched social sciences for political leadership.

“I believe in academic excellence because of my family background. I grew up with values that I still hold,” she says.

Her number one hobby is graphic designing as she enjoys making posters and flyers.

She is also a netballer since her primary school days as it clears her mind and keeps her fit.

Purity also loves traveling and eating ice-cream.

She is from Nkhata Bay and loves to participate in water sports activities although she can’t swim.
