Regional play-offs of the Fifa/FAM Under-20 Women Football Cup proved difficult to to be decided in normal time on Sunday.

Southern Region’s Blantyre Zero beat King’s Ladies 5-4 at BAT ground whereas Central Region’s Matindi Girls Academy defeated DD Sunshine 4-3. Both matches went to penalties after regulation time produced no goals.

In the North, Moyale Barracks Sisters overpowered Moyale Youth Queens 2-1.

However, Moyale earned their goals from the penalty spot after two CY defenders handled the ball in the box. Priscilla Chipungu converted both penalties. Maureen Phiri slotted in the consolation goal.

Blantyre Zero’s Pilirani Malora won the Golden Boot in the South with 10 goals whereas Matindi’s Zione Robert and Moyale’s Naomi Mwale topped the scorers’ lists in the Centre and the North respectively with six goals each.

They each received K20 000 (about $50).

According to National Women Football Committee (NWFC) chairperson Severia Chalira, Zero, Matindi and Moyale Sisters will fight for national honours at either Civo Stadium or Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on December 21.

“Since we have three teams battling at national level, the finals will be played on a round robin format. The side that will top the log table will win the crown,” said Chalira.
