Phyzix, Gaba inspire Blantyre pupils
Hip hop artist Phyzix and international soccer star Frank Gabadinho Mhango on Friday motivated primary schools pupils in Chilomoni Township, Blantyre during a life skills show.
The celebrities urged the pupils to nurture their talents and work hard in school for a brighter future.
“We have different talents to be discovered and cherished in life. Whatever that could be, it needs passion, patience and determination to live your full potential,” said Gabadinho, who plays in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL), to a crowd of pupils who gathered around the stage to take a closer look of him.
In an interview, Phyzix, real name Noel Chikoleka, who is also a marketing executive for NBS Bank, urged the pupils not to give up in life until they achieve their goals.
“To thrive in life, you should trust in yourself by being original not copycats. All things are possible, but you need good company [friends], too, and be proactive in what you do,” he said.
The Cholapitsa hitmaker, a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) postgraduate student at The Malawi Polytechnic, emphasised the significance of school, saying even artists need education for a complete life in the country.
The two stars used the platform to exhibit their talents: Phyzix performed some of his hits: Cholapitsa, Patelera and Zibwente; while Gaba did a foot and touch footbal display.
In her remarks, Youth Activists Initiative Organisation (Yaio) programmes manager Lauryne Sembereka said the motivational talks complemented their efforts of nurturing moral behaviours in the pupils.
“The face to face encounter with these two has ignited passion among the pupils, especially on their talents and education. The talks have also boosted pupils’ self esteem and understanding of responsibilities on their dreams,” she said.
The event was organised for Saint James, Mulunguzi, Namatete, Namiwawa, Likhubula, Lumbira, Sigerege, Yolodani and Chilomoni LEA primary schools under Chilomoni Zone Tikambirane Club, a life skills initiative of Translation and Dissemination of ‘Called to Care Manual No.8’ (Moyo Wanga Kuyambira Pano) project. The project is being implemented by Youth Activists Initiative Organisation (Yaio) in conjunction with Extended School Workers (ESW) of Beehive Centre in the area.
The life skills handbook equips pupils with information on HIV and Aids, decision-making, reproductive health, substance and alcohol abuse, and other life topics. n
