Police arrest Asian for blackmail

Police in Lilongwe have arrested a Malawian of Asian origin, Muhamad Hanif, for allegedly blackmailing people and being found in possession of the Immigration Department stamp and chamba. National Police deputy spokesperson Kelvin Maigwa said police got complaints from people, especially foreigners visiting Malawi, that they were receiving death threats from unknown people. “When police invaded Hanif’s home, we found him with a lot of phone SIM Cards, Immigration Department stamps and Visa application forms of India. We also found a chamba tree in his compound which he was cultivating,” said Maigwa. According to Maigwa, police investigations are still underway. —DYSON MTHAWANJI, Staff Writer
