Police call for unity to fight crime in Lilongwe
Central West Region Police Commissioner Barbara Mchenga Tsiga has asked community members in Traditional Authority Khongoni in Lilongwe to work with police to combat crime.
She made the call on Monday when she visited Kasiya Police Station where she interacted with law enforcers, traditional and faith leaders as well as business people.

Said Tsiga: “We do not do our job on our own. We work with the community. That is why I came here and I first visited Senior Chief Khongoni just to cement our working relationship with the community because it is this collaboration with the community that makes our job easy.
“After meeting the senior chief, I also visited other traditional and religious leaders and the business community from Kasiya with the same message of promoting peace and order.”
On his part, Central West Region Police Executive Committee chairperson Alex Chapondera said tempers were high after the September 16 General Election outcome in the area.
“Again, there was tension due to land and chieftaincy wrangles. So, together with the police, we engaged all concerned parties and resolved the matters amicably. Going forward, we have encouraged our community policing structures to be proactive,” he said.
Senior Chief Khongoni commended Tsiga’s visit and pledged to strengthen community policing structures in her area.
“Of course mob justice is on the rise and we urge police officers to be always alert and increase visibility in our communities,” she said
