Police in Mzimba District have launched a manhunt for suspects who broke into a shop at Mzimba Boma and stole assorted electronics valued at K2 million.

Mzimba Police Station deputy spokesperson John Nyirongo confirmed the development, saying the incident occurred last week at the boma.

Theft of television sets like these is rampant in Mzimba District

He said: “On [May 20] at around 07:00 hours, Kachipapa received a report that her shop had been broken into.  She rushed to the scene after reporting the matter to police and discovered that the criminals had gone away with two 32 inch Ecco and Samsung plasma television sets.

“They also went away with one 42 inch Samsung plasma TV set, 20 solar panels, 46 cell phones, three inverters, one portable DVD player, eight bluetooth radios and three amplifiers.”

Nyirongo then appealed to shop owners in the district to adopt a one-guard one-shop system since there was one security guard manning seven shops at the time of the incident.

According to police, the thieves gained entry into the shop through a door after breaking three locks.
