A group of politicians yesterday joined the media fraternity in the country in fundraising for the Media Institute for Southern Africa (Misa) Malawi Chapter Training Centre construction project.

The politicians contributed K6 million towards the cause before participating in a fun run which Misa organised to raise the funds. The media body targeted to raise K10 million.

President Chakwera donated K3 million, Vice-President Saulos Chilima and Atupele Muluzi gave K1 million each while Malawi Congress Party legislator Ezekiel Ching’oma and former Speaker of Parliament Henry Chimunthu Banda contributed K500 000 each.

Sam Kawale and his wife, Atupele (2ndR) also joined the fun run

Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale urged the journalists to organise more of such events to enhance the relationship between the scribes and the politicians,

Atupele Muluzi said it is high time the media and politicians worked together, urging journalists to be responsible in their reporting and stick to facts.

Said Muluzi: “I urge journalists to be responsible in their reporting. They need to stick to facts and that way they shall preserve the integrity of their profession.”

Misa Malawi chairperson Teresa Ndanga commended the politicians for their contribution towards the project.

She said that apart from fundraising, Misa organised the activity as a platform for encouraging interaction.

The training centre is being constructed at Misa Malawi’s headquarters, Mtolankhani House in Lilongwe.
