If you were not sure that Malawian-born stand-up comedian Daliso Chaponda can make you laugh then your chance to get a teaser of what will be on show Saturday night at the Bingu International Conference Centre is tonight (Thursday night).

Chaponda who will be accompanied by Carl Joshua Ncube from Zimbabwe and Uganda’s Idringi Salavado will be marking the official launch of Chaponda’s new project, The Presidents of Laughrica this Saturday.

According to local organiser Qabaniso ‘Q’ Malewezi, all three acts will be at the Living Room in Lilongwe at 8pm and the show is free.

Malewezi had earlier said that they were looking for local talent to entertain the whole audience and not just one group of people.

However, yesterday he said there will not be any local acts joining the three artists on The Presidents of Laughrica launch as the organisers did not find anyone who could perform at the show.

“A number of people showed interest, but I think for now, this is a big stage and they need to grow their craft more. We will develop such platforms as we have for poets but for comedians… so that next time we are sure of the level of performance; otherwise, you end up compromising the whole show and this will affect the perception of the event,” said Malewezi.
