Programme to empowerfemale music producers

Renowned singer and songwriter Kim of Diamonds has launched the Girls Beat Club programme to empower aspiring female music producers.

The initiative, organised through her The Diamond Standards, seeks to close the gender gap in music production by offering a safe and creative space for women to develop their skills.

Kim of Diamonds: Most female creatives lack knowledge

In an interview, Kim of Diamonds said challenges such as lack of support, career guidance and lack of mentorship for female artists hinder their growth in the music industry.

“Most female creatives lack the knowledge and understanding of how to make the most out of it. Girls Beat Club is part of the solution and we are combining different elements to create a platform for exchanging important music knowledge and opportunities,” she said.

The singer added that Girls Beat Club intends to make producers pioneers of sounds and genres, but to produce and co-produce with artists from outside the country.

“The participants will showcase what they will create and we keep growing and collaborating not just in Malawi, but with other creatives internationally. We want them to build confidence so that they can produce for anyone and anywhere with quality, innovation and professionalism,” she added.

Kim of Diamonds urged aspiring female producers to apply for the programme where participants will receive hands-on training in production techniques, exposure to industry standards tool and collaborations.

One aspiring music producer, 21-year-old Taweni Banda from Area 24 in Lilongwe, who will participate in the programme, said since she started music, it has not been easy to maintain productions which demand payment for every studio session.

“But this training is important to me because I can start making my own beats that resonate with my music style. I will not have to worry about paying for studio sessions anymore,” she said
