Malawi Red Cross Society has donated personal protective equipment to Mwanza District Hospital

Speaking during the handover on Saturday, Red Cross director of programmes Prisca Chisala said the PPE sought to support the district’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chisala (R) hands over the items to Zuze (2nd R)

“With the opening of Kamuzu International Airport and continued number of residents returning from other countries through Mwanza Border, the demand for PPE has increased,” she said.

Chisala further said they will continue supporting the Ministry of Health fight the pandemic.

On his part, Mwanza District director of health and social services Linn Zuze said the hospital was facing shortage of PPE.

“Being a border district, we need PPE to protect health workers from the disease,” he said.

The items include 1 500 N-95 masks, 40 000 surgical masks and four tents.

The K43 million worth PPE was supported by European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection.
