Ref Chinoko gets another Blantyre derby

Mzuzu-based referee David Chinoko will once more be in charge of tomorrow’s Blantyre derby between Mighty Wanderers FC and FCB Nyasa Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) in a statement said Chinoko will have Happiness Mbandambanda as first assistant referee and Mussa Grant as second assistant.

On the other hand, Easter Zimba will be the fourth official while veteran referee Moffat Champiti will assess the officiating panel.

The panel also officiated last season’s Blantyre derby second round which Bullets won 2-1 with goals from Zimbabwean forward Ronald Chitiyo and Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju.

For the Nomads, Cameroonian forward Thierry Tajong Samar scored the consolation goal.

Meanwhile, football fans have welcomed the officiating panel based on their past performance.

In an interview, Patrick Nayupe applauded Sulom for assigning a Mzuzu-based referee for the Blantyre derby.

Another fan Banett Kamowa  also said he has trust in Chinoko.

“He is a very good referee,” he said.

On his part, Edson Kazembe said Chinoko makes good decisions in crucial moments.

Bullets lead the log table with 18 points from six matches while Wanderers are second with 13 points from five games.

A win will see the People’s Team opening an eight-point gap while for Wanderers they will cut Bullets lead to two points.
