Road accident kills one in Ntchisi

One person died and two others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a cyclist and a pedestrian in Ntchisi.

Ntchisi Police spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha told The Nation that the accident happened on Friday near Ntchisi People’s Shop at Ntchisi Trading Centre.

M’bumpha said: “The pedal cyclist, Pilirani Mpinda (20), with his passenger, Jonathan Katikwiri (28), were cycling from the direction of Ntchisi Secondary School to Ntchisi Market along Ntchisi-Mponela Road.

“Upon reaching Ntchisi People’s Shop, the cyclist hit Kaziona Kapusa (23) who was crossing the road and all three fell down to the ground.”

M’bumpha said Kapusa sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntchisi District Hospital.

Mpinda and Katikwiri sustained bruises on arms and knees and are currently admitted to the hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Kapusa came from Kafwafwa Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kalumo in Ntchisi whereas Mponda and Katikwiri come from Lumbe Village, T/A Nthondo in the same district.
