Chikhwawa United and Surestream Academy at the weekend extended their leads in the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Premier and First Divisions respectively.

Chikhwawa won both their weekend games against their hot contenders Cobbe Barracks and White Eagles by 2-1 margins to shoot to 68 points from 26 games in their quest for Super League promotion.

Cobbe are now trailing by seven points (on 61 points from the same number of games) and they will be taking on Nyasa United this afternoon at BAT ground.

Zomba United are third with 54 points from 26 games. They lost to Mangochi United 2-1 on Sunday.

Surestream’s fairy tale run in the First Division continues. They, too, bagged maximum points following 3-0 win margins over Makoka and Chez Ntemba.

They now have 57 points from 22 games, 15 points ahead of second-placed Mangochi Police who have played the same number of games while Blantyre ADD are third with 41 points from 20 games.

On Saturday, Surestream’s marksman Tony Biasi put his team ahead in the 36th minute before Ishmail Chirwa and Patrick Phiri got on the score sheet in the 58th and 81st minute respectively.

On Sunday, captain Levison Maganizo drew first blood in the 18th minute before Talekeleni Joseph and Biasi scored a goal each.

Surestream’s technical adviser Patricio Kulemeka said: “We are happy that the new players are blending with the others and the combination, especially upfront, is very good.”
