Rotary Club, Round Table in blood donation drive

Rotary Club of Blantyre in partnership with Blantyre Round Table 20 has committed to supporting Malawi Blood Transfusion Services (MBTS) get blood for use in hospitals.

Speaking on Monday during a blood donation initiative in Blantyre, Rotary Club of Blantyre president Thomas Nyang’wa said they collaborated with the tablers as part of their mission to address pressing health challenges facing the country.

He said the initiative sought to boost the country’s critical blood reserves.

“Blood is a precious resource and the need for it is constant in hospitals across Malawi. This initiative is our way of giving back to the community and contributing to saving lives,” said Nyang’wa.

On his part, Blantyre Round Table chairperson Kazione Kulisewa highlighted the importance of collective efforts in tackling national health challenges.

“Our partnership with the Rotary Club reflects a shared commitment to humanitarian service. We are proud to be part of this cause and look forward to more joint initiatives,” he said.

MBTS assistant public relations officer Christina Kilowe thanked the organisations for facilitating the initiative.

She said such voluntary donations are crucial in meeting the country’s demand for blood.

“The country continues to face a critical demand for blood, particularly during this period when students are sitting for end of term examinations and are not readily available to donate blood,” said Kilowe.
