The Professional Golfers Association  of Malawi (PGA Malawi) says so far 43 golfers from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi have confirmed participation in the SeedCo Malawi Open Golf Championship.

SeedCo has pumped in about $15 000 (about K15.54 million) in prize money towards the tour which  will run from November 22 to 25

In an interview on Wednesday, PGA Malawi chairperson General Henry Odillo (retired) thanked SeedCo Malawi for its support towards the tournament.

He said: “As you know, the annual Warm Heart Tour could not take place because of financial constraints. But Seedco has bailed us out by offering to sponsor the Malawi Open.

“It is a good news and we are excited.  We are grateful to SeedCo. Already, foreign golfers have started registering for the tour. We expect an exciting event.”

Odillo has since called on local golfers to prepare to win the tour.

Last year, the SeedCo Open was won by Robson Chinhoi from Zimbabwe.

Chidale is among the local golfers that will take part

Malawi top golfers Paul Chidale and Adam Sailesi finished fourth and seventh,  respectively.

In an interview on Wednesday, Chidale said he has been preparing well for the tournament.

“My target is to win the tour. I have been training for the past three months for the Warm Heart Tour which failed to take place two moths ago. So, I am prepared,” he said.

Sailesi also said he is itching for a win to  make a name for himself on the international platform.

“We are playing at home. This is our course. We train on it every week. It will be a shame not to make the cut. I am training hard and I am focused,” he said.

Patridge Shycal, who is overseeing registration, released the names of those who have so far registered.
