Dear judge Mbadwa,
It was only last week, my lord, that we were talking about Katundu wa Boma that wreaked havoc in Msumba. Little did I know that they would display the ugliest form of violence few days later.
Wha t made the i r u n c o u t h b ehav i o u r disgusting my lord, was that they had the temerity to perpetrate violence of the highest form in full view of the Nyasaland Police and Kings African Rifles.
This suggests that these hooligans are more feared than Nyasaland Police and have the backing of some powers that be, but I don’t know who.
When I thought the Nyasaland Minister of Home-made Securi ty would come out ful l throttle to condemn the violence, he flattered to deceive.
But as I have always argued, nobody can have the courage of carrying such dangerous weapons in the presence of the police and expect to get away with it unless they are backed by the powers that be.
My lord, we are slowly allowing unruly people to promote lawlessness. But this has been my persi stent argument: A party in government always creates some paramilitary wing that t r ies to consol i date the governing par ty ’s s t rang l ehold on the people.

As I speak, my lord, Silo Momiwa and his colleagues are nursing terrible wounds resulting from their encounter with the group.
My lord, we now know who owns the machete-wielding group that is v i c i o u s l y a t t a c k i ng protestors in full view of the security agents in the Capital City.
We know who would want to perfect the work of cadets since the People’s Demagogic Party is no longer in government.
In fact, my lord, most supporters of Mapuya have fallen victim to these ruffians who do not fear the police.
Where would somebody in the opposition get the courage to perpetrate terror in the full view of the Nyasaland Police?
But why haven’t heads rolled for failing to execute orders to investigate or arrest the panga boys?
I am waiting to be proven wrong, but trust me no one will be arrested for attacking innocent protestors or for carrying such unlawful weapons.
As long as they are perpetuating violence in the interest of those with power, the hooligans will go scot-free again.
Don’t tell me, my lord, that the State machinery is incapable of investigating and arresting that gang. If this were so, it would portend that we have become a lawless citizenry while the security agents have become powerless.
What is disappointing is that one expected the Cockerel to conduct civilised politics when you consider that they stood on a high moral ground as a reformed group when they were campaigning in 2019.
But the culture the machete-wielding guys have introduced should be stopped forthwith, especially now that we only have few months before September 16.
