Silver ambush Bullets

Big Bullets failed to defend the Presidential Cup after going down 1-0 to Silver Strikers at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe yesterday.

Former Civo United player, Chawanangwa Kaonga, was the architect of Bullets’ misery in the 76th minute.

Bullets had a bright start in the first 10 minutes, but were not potent up front as their offensive was defused by in-form Lucky Malata and Bernardo Namangwiyo.

The match itself did not spark emotions until Kaonga scored.

Bullets midfield of Chimango Kayira, Fischer Kondowe and James Chilapondwa did not tick. Silver then took control of the match with Green Harawa and Jester Mulima being Bullets’ tormentors.

The introduction of Ndaziona Chatsalira in the 74th minute made the difference as he forced a free-kick which resulted in the scramble in the six-yard box from which Kaonga scored.

“It is a painful loss, but we do not have any excuse. Silver played well and used their chance. Now, we have to focus on the league,” said Bullets assistant coach Gerald Phiri in a post-match brief.

Silver assistant coach Hellings Mwkasungula was ecstatic about the win: “I think we played better than them and deserved to progress. It is a great win considering that we have lost twice to Bullets in cup competitions. It was a disciplined performance from the players.”
