Kabwafu FC were all smiles on Saturday when Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company (LLTC) gave them sports equipment worth K2.5 million.

The equipment includes 25 pairs Jomo Sono boots, 30 tracksuits, 10 footballs, 15 jerseys and shorts.

Speaking at St Andrew’s CCAP Church in Mzuzu where he made the donation, LLTC managing director Rodney Hagger said his company felt duty-bound to assist after the club approached them.

“Giving is our social corporate responsibility. We plough back the goodies to our Kabwafu farmers after our long-time association and we wish the club well in all its endeavours,” said Hagger.

Kabwafu FC patron Traditional Authority Mpherembe said he and other well-wishers skinned themselves to bail out the club when it was in the Super League.

He said the donation was timely as the club is fighting to do well in the Northern Region Football League as it campaigns for a return to the top flight league.

He, however, said they still have transport problems as players travel by lorry, which is not healthy if they are to compete well in the league.

On his part, Lameck Khonje, who represented the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), thanked LLTC for the gesture, saying it will go a long way to motivate the players.

Khonje appealed to other companies to emulate the gesture and called upon the players to work hard if more support is to come.
