A second-half brace from Khuda Muyaba inspired Silver Strikers to reach Fisd Challenge Cup semi-finals after beating Kamuzu Barracks 2-0 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe yesterday.

Muyaba was set up by Nigerian forward Michael Tetteh to score the first goal in the 47th minute.

It was the perfect start after resumption for the Bankers who struggled in the first half.

Fizili: We struggled in the first half

The goal stimulated Silver as they put the soldiers under-siege with menacing attacks.

Muyaba cushioned Silver’s lead in the 60th from the penalty kick awarded after Duncan Nyoni was tripped in the penalty box.

The victory has boosted their morale ahead of Confederations of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup against Gabonese side A.O CMS second leg of the preliminary round on Wednesday after losing 1-0 away.

Silver coach Lovemore Fazili applauded his charges for putting up a brilliant performance after a dreary first half.

“We struggled especially in the early minutes of the first game due to fatigue. But after recess we talked to the boys to fight hard,” he said.

On facing Bullets, the Silver coach expects an explosive encounter as they are also billed to play in the TNM Super League.

His counterpart Temwa Msuku blamed the loss on the team’s failure to utilise their chances in the first half.

“We created many scoring chances in the first 30 minutes. It’s unfortunate that we could not score,” he said.

“Otherwise Silver deserve to win. They dominated the game after the second half kicked off.”

Wanderers face Moyale in the other semi-final.
