Silver draw to open five-point lead
Silver Strikers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets settled for a goalless draw despite both teams creating many chances in a game played at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe yesterday.
It was a competitive match throughout, but unfortunately for fans, no goals came.
The result means Silver have a five-point lead at the top with 58 points, second-placed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have 53 points while Bullets are third with 45 points.
Silver threatened Bullets just three minutes into the match, but goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba stopped Chinsisi Maonga’s effort.
Few minutes later, Silver goalkeeper George Chikooka denied Babatunde Adepoju a goal-scoring opportunity.
In the 17th minute, Stain Davie drew the wrath of Silver fans when he shot wide from close range after being fed a good ball by Maonga.
In the 32nd minute, Bullets’ Stanley Billiat unleashed a powerful shot from a long range, but the ball went begging across the goalmouth.
After recess, both sides started the game cautiously, but gradually the tempo increased with good attacking football.
Uchizi Vunga forced a superb save from Chimbamba in the 63rd minute from a sole effort.
Few minutes later, substitute Wongani Lungu, who had replaced Ernest Petro, nearly gave the visitors the lead, but Chikooka saved the ball.
In a post-match interview, Silver coach Peter Mponda described the result as fair.
He said: “We wanted to win, but it ended 0-0. I think it is a true reflection of the game. They had chances just as we did. In terms of ball possession it was balanced. So, yes it is fair. We were playing a team which won everything last season and are tactically good.”
On the other hand, his Bullets counterpart Kallisto Pasuwa said the result was “unfortunate”.
“I think this is the game where we missed a lot of chances. We were very offensive in the second half and created more chances. but we were not technically good enough to put the ball back into the net. It’s unfortunate not to have won,” he said
