Silver to host awards ceremony

Newly crowned TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers will host an awards ceremony to recognise players’ efforts in defending the Super League title.

The team’s general secretary Owen Munthali said details about the ceremony are currently sketchy. He said they want to set up an independent committee to handle the programme.

“We want people outside Silver to objectively look at the potential candidates in various categories and come up with a programme.

“We were planning to host a ceremony to officially present the league trophy to the Governor of Reserve Bank of Malawi, our sponsors, but we thought of adding the players’ awards to the programme.

“Players give their all on the pitch. Rewarding them will motivate them to fight for more honours,” said Munthali.

A post on the club’s Facebook page last week said the team will host a party and fans were asked to vote for their favourite players of the season.

“Silver Strikers would like you to vote for the best player of the season, most improved player and most disciplined player. The winners will be announced during the party next week.

“Activities at the party will include interactions between players and supporters. The supporters should buy gifts for their favourite players to be presented on the day,” reads the post.

According to the 58 comments on the post, Harvey Mkacha, captain Lucky Malata and goalkeeper Charles Swini are the front runners for the Player-of-the-Season Award.

Malata was also named best defender during a Super League awards gala held last week.
