Sulom says no reason to panic
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president Colonel Gilbert Mittawa says there is no reason to panic over the future of the TNM Super League sponsorship, insisting that all is well.
His assurance follows continued reports of a fallout between the flagship football league sponsors TNM plc and the league runners over a contractual dispute which culminated in the mobile network service provider not showing up for the 2024 season launch game between Dedza Dynamos and FCB Nyasa Bullets at Dedza Stadium on Saturday.
In an interview soon after the launch game, Mittawa, sounding as cool as ice, said: “There is absolutely no reason to panic. I can assure Malawians in general and the football fraternity in particular, that everything is in order.”
On the sponsor’s absence, he was quoted by our sister newspaper Nation on Sunday as having said: “TNM is a valued partner for Sulom and our football in general. They have been with us, they are with us and they will always be with us.
“I am sure that time and resources permitting, they will be patronizing league games.”
Asked yesterday on their absence at the launch and whether they indeed have issues with Sulom, TNM head of brand marketing Madalitso Jonazi said: “No comment.”
TNM are reportedly not happy with the coming in of PremierBet as co-sponsors of the league.
Sulom unveiled a K260 million partnership deal with the betting firm on March 30.
