Sunbird donates K4m to Ladies’ Golf Tourney

Sunbird Tourism plc on Tuesday donated K4 200 000 towards the upcoming Ladies Open Golf Tournament scheduled for April 11 to 14 in which 80 women golfers from across Africa are expected to participate.

The hospitality chain’s  chief executive officer Yusuf Olela said the donation is part of the company’s obligation to promote sports in the country.

He said sports development in the country requires concerted efforts.

Said Olela: “Sunbird, being one of the hospitality industry leading brands in the country, has a social responsibility to contribute to sports development.”

Ladies Golf Union of Malawi, (Lguom) president Regina Mwanza said the union is grateful to Sunbird as the donation  will go a long way in making the event successful.

She said the organisers of the tournament are looking for about K11 million to host a successful event.

 “We are grateful to Sunbird for this support towards the Malawi Ladies Open Championship to take place from 11th to 14th April. We  expect over 80 golfers,” Mwanza said. n
