Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has announced that the first-round of the flagship league will be delayed further due to circumstances beyond their control.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said according to the initial plan, the first-round was supposed to be concluded this coming weekend, but due to the abandonment of the Carlsberg Cup quarter-final fixture between Evirom and Red Lions and the national soccer team’s trip to Botswana, the league has been affected.

“According to our initial plan, Big Bullets were supposed to take on Silver Strikers on September 1, but both teams have contributed more than three players to the national team which means that we’ll have to reschedule the game.

“Then Red Lions were also supposed to travel to Mzuzu for mid-week fixtures, but with the abandonment of their game against Evirom, it means the games cannot take place as we are not sure of the determination that will be made [by FAM],” said Banda.

The Sulom GS said the conclusion of the first-round will be determined once FAM issues an official communication on the Carlsberg Cup fixtures.

“The international friendly match against Botswana was not on the initial programme that was provided by FAM,” he said.

The Carlsberg Cup  organising committee  was scheduled to meet last evening to determine the way forward regarding the abandoned match.n
