High-flying Surestream Academy look set to clinch the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Division One championship.

The academy outfit being coached by former Flames captain Peter Mponda has now created a 12-point gap at the summit of the table following their 2-1 win over Bvumbwe Reasearch Reserves on Saturday.

They now have 34 points from 12 games.

Patience Khamula scored both goals for Surestream who led 1-0 at interval. The hosts equalised before the academy side snatched a late winner.

However, Mponda described his team’s performance against Bvumbwe Reserves as the worst so far.

“Of course, we won against Bvumbwe Reserves, but we struggled and in all fairness, we did not deserve to bag full points. We need to wake up from our slumber,” said Mponda whose team will travel to Naming’omba on Saturday.

Second-placed Luchenza, on 22 points, lost 4-2 to Northern Stars. They will be up against Rays of Hope at home on Saturday.

Blantyre ADD are on third position also with 22 points from 11 games, but Luchenza have a better goal difference. Blantyre ADD date Northern Stars and Naming’omba on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
