If I were

Symon Vuwa-Kaunda

Presidential adviser on parliamentary affairs and national unity, I would not remove Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera from the list of speakers at the funeral ceremony of Traditional Authority (T/A) Malenganzoma in Nkhata Bay for purely political reasons.

If I were adha Vuwa, I would feel ashamed of myself for hijacking the funeral when the deceased was not my relation.

Oh yes, much as my party is desperate for votes and support in the North in the countdown to next year’s tripartite elections, I would not sink so low to hijack the proceedings just to advance the interest of the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

How I wish I were Vuwa, the former member of Parliament for Nkhata Bay Central Constituency, because I would realise that I had no justification whatsoever to act against the wishes of the bereaved family to reshuffle the shortlist of speakers and insert my preferred name instead.

That is if only I were my man Vuwa, nicknamed ‘Murambadoro’. Fortunately, I am not him.
