Tabitha 2nd leading scorer after hat-trick

France-based Malawian female footballer Tabitha Chawinga claimed her first hat-trick at Olympique Lyonnais on Friday in an 8-0 demolition of Guingamp in the French Women’s Arkema First Division League.

The three goals saw her rise to joint second on the scorers chart.

She, along with four others, are a goal shy of leading scorer Clara Mateo of Paris.

Tabitha netted the fourth, fifth and sixth goals in the 48, 50 and 65 minutes to step up her golden boot defence campaign.

And posting on her Facebook page after the match, she said: “All I have to say is thank you Jesus.”

Following the win, Olympique Lyonnais extended their lead at the top of the table to 19 points from seven matches, four ahead of second-placed Paris Saint Germain (PSG), who as of yesterday had played a game less.
