Malawi women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga is now the second leading scorer in the Italian Women’s Serie A with three goals in two matches.

Tabitha scored brace for her side Inter Milan in Sunday’s three-all draw against Juventus.

The Scorchers captain is tied with Juve’s Lineth Beerensteyn and the two are a goal behind leading scorer Cristina Girelli also of Juve.

In an interview yesterday, Tabitha, who is on a year-long loan from Chinese top-flight league outfit Wuhan Jiangda, said she is enjoying her game.

She said: “The league is tough here and this is the sort of challenge I was looking forward to.

“The standards are very high. I thank God for His blessings.”

Tabitha, however, said it is too early to tip her for the Golden Boot Award.

“But I’ll keep on working hard and see how it goes,” she said.

Tabitha also scored in her debut against Parma which Inter Milan, also known as Internazionale, won 4-1.

Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili applauded the former DD Sunshine striker, saying she is a hard worker.

“She has set her standards high. She is a true leader. I am happy with her performance for both club and country,” he said.

Inter Milan are fifth with four points from two matches in the 10 team league, two points behind leaders Roma.

At the Cosafa Championship in South Africa, Tabitha was named Player of the Match in the Scorchers matches against Botswana and Comoros.

But she did not play in the match against Tanzania because it was after the Fifa window. Malawi lost 3-1 to Tanzania to crash out of the tournament in the group stages after drawing against Botswana and thrashing Comoros 6-0.
