Tablers take Christmas to Mpemba Reformatory Centre

Blantyre Round Table 20 on Saturday celebrated early Christmas with children at Mpemba Reformatory Centre in Blantyre with messages of hope and encouragement.

The tablers, who take their time every festive season to celebrate with the children at the centre, also donated assorted items worth K2 million to the children.

Speaking during the celebration, Blantyre Round Table community service officer Robert Sazuze said they have been a long-term partner of Mpemba Reformatory Centre; hence, celebrating Christmas with the facility every festive season.

He said: “It is our tradition to strive to give back to the community and cheering the children at the centre during the festive season.

“Our group raised funds and also got support from partners such as Kips restaurant and Quarry King Limited.”

Mpemba Reformatory Centre deputy principal Leah Chuza thanked Blantyre Round Table for the timely donation.

She said the centre has been facing financial challenges which have affected operations, resulting in scaling down the number of children they can accommodate at the institution.

“We appeal to other well-wishers to emulate the gesture set by Blantyre Round Table,” said Chuza.

The donated items included maize flour, rice, porridge flour and soap.

The day started with a bus ride from the centre to Chichiri Shopping Centre where the children enjoyed ice cream courtesy of Kips Restaurant.

After the bus trip, the children were treated to a luncheon the tablers organised at the institution.

The day ended with an annual football match between Blantyre Round Table and the children.
