Police preach love during festive season

South West Region Police Commissioner Noel Kayira has challenged police officers and Malawians to demonstrate love during the festive season.

He said this on Thursday when police in the region celebrated Christmas carols, an annual event that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25, Christmas Day.

Kayira said it is only when love exists that people can celebrate the festive season freely.

He said: “I am excited that today we are doing these celebrations in the form of singing and praising the Lord, singing for the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

“I take advantage of this period to spread the message of love among police officers, their spouses and within the broader community.”

Kayira said policing in the democratic era is not the way it used to be during the one-party regime.

“We need to join hands as police officers, promote love among each other for us to remain integrated and remain united so that we can be successful in each every operation during the festival season,” he said.

Kayira assured people in the region that they are ready to provide security during the festive season.

In his remarks, the Christmas carols organising chairperson Ziwanji Mtunduwatha said the event is crucial to police officers.

“As you are aware, we work every single day of the week, therefore, this event is a special thing as we also need God every time we discharge our operations,” she said.

Meanwhile, police officers have intensified patrols in Blantyre and other districts in the region.

A businessperson Chikumbutso Phiri, who operates in Limbe, said police visibility is crucial during the festive season as their clients are targeted by thieves
