Musician Taygrin has been nominated for the prestigious African Achievement Award as the Best African International Cultural Ambassador.
The recognition comes after 17 years of dedication to the music industry, a testament to his hard work and contribution to promoting Malawian culture globally.
According to the invitation card, the award, which recognises and honours outstanding individuals who have contributed to the global African community, will take place in Seattle, USA on December 15.
Taygrin, known for his unique blend of traditional and modern music, expressed his gratitude and humility for the nomination.
In an interview yesterday, he said: “It is an honour to see the world recognise the beauty of staying true to your roots.”
Musician Union of Malawi president Vita Chirwa said Tay Grin’s nomination is not only for him, but the country as well.
“We are thrilled with Tay Grin’s nomination. This is a win not just for him, but for the entire Malawi’s creative industry. To fellow artists, I say let us keep pushing boundaries, innovating and supporting each other,” he said.
The ceremony is expected to attract a large audience of African diaspora and friends of Africa. It will feature a keynote address, cultural performances and the awards presentation.
