Temwa returns to action with a bang
China-based Malawi football star Temwa Chawinga on Wednesday returned to action with a bang in the Chinese Women’s Super League by scoring Wuhan Jiangda’s second goal in their 3-1 triumph over Sichuan.
The 24-year-old striker was out of action for over three months due to the Chinese national team’s commitments that led to the suspension of the local league.
In a video clip her elder sister and Inter Milan Women’s team forward Tabitha posted on her Facebook page, Temwa received the ball just outside the box before making a quick turn, while being tightly marked, and letting out a thunderous shot beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.
“It feels great to return to action with a goal. This has taken away all the frustrations I had when we spent a long time just training,” Temwa said.
On her part, Tabitha, who is on loan at Inter Milan from Wuhan Jiangda, said she was excited to see her younger sibling back on the pitch.
“I am really happy for her that despite the long break, she is still physically fit and has lost her scoring boot,” she said.
Temwa inspired Wuhan to Chinese National Cup glory in July when she scored a brace in a 3-1 victory over Beijing. She also won the tournament’s golden boot award.
Her team now leads the log table with 33 points from 11 wins.
