Scorchers striking duo of the Chawinga sisters, Temwa and Tabitha, are in hot contention for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) golden boot.
Temwa is joint leading scorer with five goals alongside Zambian Barbara Banda and Ivory Coast’s Ines Konan.

Breathing down their necks are Tabitha, who has four goals, just like South African Thembi Kgatlana, but the latter has no chance as Banyana Banyana bowed out of the tournament in the quarter-finals.
But as per the tournament’s rules, the US-based Malawian striker, Temwa, has the bragging rights among the three leading scorers as she has two more assists than Banda and Konan, whose teams were already booted out of the continental showpiece.
Temwa has two assists while Banda and Konan have one each.
Her France-based sister Tabitha is, therefore, the only one with a realistic chance to overtake her in tomorrow’s final.
Cameroon’s Mane Ngah, who has three goals, is another player with an outside chance of contesting for the Golden Boot Award.
But in separate interviews with SPM Sports, the Chawinga sisters played down the golden boot race insisting that the priority is the team’s cause.
Said Temwa: “My focus is to help the team win and not necessarily the golden boot. That’s the most important thing. Winning the golden boot will just be an icing on the cake, but if we don’t win the cup and then I win the golden boot, it will count for nothing.
“It really doesn’t matter who wins the golden boot.”
On her part, Tabitha also played down suggestions that the race could turn out to be a sisters’ battle.
“No, it’s not a sisters’ fight, it is about fighting to help the team to win. If anything, I would like my sister to win the award and I will be happy for her,” she said.
France-based midfielder Rose Kabzere has scored twice, but will miss the final as she will be serving the red card she got during the semi-final against Alegeria while Sweden-based smiling assassin Faith Chimzimu has netted once.
The Scorchers have scored 12 goals so far in the competition going into the final match.
